In-class 11/9 and homework for 11/14: Finding a source to support essay points
1. Find a short news article or scholarly article (instructions below) on the theme you are interesting in having your essay focus on. For instance, the two above focus on a theme of "social media's impact on mental health." Fill in the blank with your essay: "social media's impact on ________."

- sexuality
- religion/spirituality
2. Just as you did with the two articles assigned, for your own:
Print off and highlight the article in your first readings. Then, in your notebook:
- Write down the causes associated with social media
- Write down the effects
- Write down any major reasons why they argue the effects
- Write down at least one example illustration of an effect if there is one in the article
Finding a source:
- First, try to use Google Scholar, which is Google's academic-filtered search engine.
- If you want an easier to read news article instead of an academic article, use regular Google. Pick a more well-known news source, such as Washington Post or New York Times.
- Look up:
- "social media's impact on..." (fill in the blank)
- Bring in a source that you've actively read (took notes on and highlighted, etc.).
3. Bring in an outline of your Essay 3, use "cause and effect" language in points:
